Review of The Turquoise Jewel
If you like Harry Potter stories you will love The Turquoise Jewel, a time travel journey and engaging kaleidoscope of fascinating people and exotic places. This fantasy novel is jam-packed with intriguing adventure initiated by rubbing the beautiful turquoise ring and flying on a magical carpet.
We first meet Emma, a precocious 12 year old Canadian girl, anxious about being the new girl in her Oman school. On the weekend she is lured into the colourful souk by the intoxicating aromas and beautifully crafted wares. Emma finds a silver ring with a stunning turquoise centre stone surrounded by unusual carvings. She tries it on and when she tries to remove it by twisting the band, her whole world changes.
Accompanying Emma on her magical adventure full of intrigue, history, trickery, and excitement are Emma's older brother Tigo and their friend Logan. A parallel story taking place 400 years earlier introduces us to Princess Zahara who eventually joins the three friends on a wild and riveting journey.
Kudos to the mother daughter duo, Katia and Cairo, who dreamt up this fantastic page-turner.
