‘I realise with quite a fright
this page is now my portal
for as you read the words I write
I become immortal’

Mettle & Flesh is a collection of poetry encompassing observations on life, and how we see ourselves within it.
Born from personal experience, the poems span across topics ranging from love, loss, ageing, trust, bad dates, and the inner thoughts we usually keep to ourselves.
The poems range from contemplation to rage, from disappointment, to questioning the status quo. Within them, you will find a personal connection as you hear your own inner voice echoed on the page.
Mettle & Flesh is a representation of the inner strength we build through experience, and the pain and joy that our flesh can bring.

Claire was born in Melbourne Australia, and now resides in Perth after also living in the UK for many years. She is a member of Mensa, works in finance and is an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy.
Claire has a dark and dry sense of humour, and spends her free time creating either poetry, short stories, or music with her band.

This has been a godsend to read during these troubling times.

Find a cozy corner in your house, make a cup of coffee, and let this collection of poems transform you into another world where you will surely learn more about yourself and your fellow man.

The authenticity and vulnerability of the author are at the centerpiece of this book, where her journey through the different sections makes it a unique must-read.

I'm particular, I loved the poem Tell Me Bore which transported me back to my home country and all those friendships and relationships you have at the same time left behind but hold very dear in your heart.

The poem The Hue of You was a perfect way, to sum up, loss and love. Something I have gone through personally recently and it really resonated with how I felt. It’s nice to read how other people have had similar experiences expressed in different and unique ways.

All in all, I very much recommend this book to anyone who loves poems and especially those who haven't had the pleasure of reading poems in a while and want to dive back into this beautiful form of literature some might say has been lost in the modern times.

    Magnificently disturbing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the way the poetry has been written. You feel like you are sharing the same experiences.

The poetry is so raw with emotions, and yet deep with complexity. This book takes you on a journey and an insight into the thoughts of the author. It had me intrigued, and moved to tears at other times. This is one book not to be missed and a great addition to the Christmas stocking.
