This is Oliver’s first novel, he started writing while his wife was working late during the lockdowns, surprising himself with his own dedication to the project. Oliver is a family man, daddy to two young daughters. Born and raised in West Yorkshire, he now lives in Kent with his family.
I’m not 100% sure what I was expecting from this, but the premise intrigued me enough to buy it and give it a go. It quickly gets going and becomes a thrilling adventure. There’s no hidden meaning in the words on this one, just action. If that’s your thing then this is for
Well written, fast paced action with an interesting storyline. It is full of twists, turns and the (pleasantly) unexpected! Matthew is such an intriguing character and kept me gripped throughout. I was left wanting more but the ending is set up perfectly for a sequel - I look forward to learning more about Matthew’s past and what the future has in store! An excellent read by a very talented new author - I highly recommend!
I read this book last week over two days. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The description of the scenes, areas, rooms, etc. was brilliant, I could see them in my mind. The in depth description of the characters brought them to life. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat. I look forward to Oliver's next book.
A very impressive debut novel which I could not put down! Fast paced from the start with unpredictable plot twists and a perilous journey across deepest darkest London. I would love to read more about the exploits of the deadly, but likeable Matthew, and would highly recommend to others.
A very impressive debut novel which I could not put down! Fast-paced from the start with unpredictable plot twists and a perilous journey through deepest darkest London. I would love to read more about the exploits of the deadly, but likeable Matthew, and would highly recommend to others.
Good gripping story - excellent unique story line - well written and believable. - let’s see the sequel
What a story! I was hooked from start to finish! What an amazing concept this story had, especially with the main character, Matthew Bartimaeus, who is a blind hitman, yet one of the deadliest! The story truly gets going when a hit goes wrong, and... See more
An absolutely brilliant novel which I couldn’t put down! The attention to detail draws you in and I felt like I was there with the characters every step of the way. I hope we aren’t waiting too long for the next one as I can’t wait!
Gripping read, well executed plot and you won't be let down by this book. Masterful work from such a new author.
A thrilling ride through the dark seedy parts of London. This book is hard to put down. The characters reach out and pull you in. Matthew is the best bad guy you can’t help but root for and that Zoe is one tough cookie. Together they make quite a pair. Read this book today, you won’t regret it!!
One of the most gripping books I've read in a long time! I can't believe how much I related to the characters, especially considering some of the things they were doing. I don't often read a book more than once, but this one is just as good the third time through. I would definitely recommend.
This is a fantastic book that is difficult to put down once you start reading it. It is a captivating read from a talented author. I can easily imagine it being adapted into an action film on a streaming service. Congratulations to the author on a job well done for their debut novel. I eagerly anticipate their future works.
A fantastic debut novel, very fast paced and didn’t want to put it down! Can’t wait for the next one and see what happens to Matthew next.
This book sucks you in from the first page, with its very likeable and yet terrifying assassin, Matthew Bartimaeus. The attention to detail on how Matthew achieves his aim and so his quarry has you with him all the way. The interaction with Zoe adds an interesting relationship which develops as it becomes clear everything they assumed about each other isn't quite what it first seemed and leads to a challenging finish.
I read this book in hospital to my dad whilst he was there. I told him of the thrilling car chases, of the devious assassins. Of the valiant heroism and the unexpected whip crack turns of pace. For a first book, this one held my attention. Which, for someone with zero time in each hour is high praise. Looking forward to the next one, Oliver. Lead us by the hand into more excitement and thrills!
What an incredible book from this first time author. Oliver has done a phenomenal job of really putting you in to the mind of the protagonist. Any questions you might have had such as “how on earth is this blind man going to kick ass?” Do NOT go unanswered. I could seriously see this as a movie or a TV series and I’ve recommended it to my friends and family. I’m so impressed by the quality of storytelling and I really hope that I have the pleasure of reading another tale from Mr H in the near future. I’m already ready to put that bad boy in my basket. Keep up the good work Oliver you bloody smashed it with this one!
Loose Ends is an excellent debut novel by Oliver Hurst. The story is one that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish and leaves you with questions that you hope will be answered in subsequent books - although there are no cliff hangers! The characters are engaging and the action causes you to want to keep on reading. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Would I recommend this books to others, yes 100% YES!
Brilliant debut novel, packed with action and an absolute page-turner.
‘Loose Ends’ is a high octane, pacey action thriller that’s crashes its way through the more sordid parts of London. Fights, shootings, car chases and brutal killings, follow Oliver Hurst’s intriguing blind antihero; Matthew Bartimaeus ‘s 48 hour journey of revenge and retribution. Whose conflicted moral compass , swinging erratically as an iron one at the North Pole, chases his prey down. Cold and unyielding, Bartimaeus, does however, possess seeds of redemption within his character. The action is fast moving, the writing punchy and the dialogue sharp and snappy. Bartimaeus’s character requires more depth and history, but I’m sure we will see this in future novels, when , hopefully, he is operating on the right side of the law. All said a very worthy debut novel.
