When George, the orangutan, discovers his rainforest is being destroyed, he is very, very angry. With encouragement from many of the smaller animals whose homes have been destroyed, George starts on an adventure to save the rainforest with the help of Grace, the clouded leopard, Sleepy, the mystical binturong, General Aman, and many other animals at the Wildlife Centre--animal power versus man and machine.
Lyn Pendle has a passion for orangutans and travelling. After retiring from teaching, she decided to have a gap experience (old people can have them as well) and went to Sarawak to work with Project Orangutan. There she experienced firsthand the range of animals affected by the loss of their rainforest homes. On returning home, she decided to write a fun story to engage with younger readers; so they could understand the problems of deforestation and the effect it has on wild life.

George the big brave orangutan is a splendid character. His love for the rainforest where he lives is apparent from the onset, as is the connection the author has with the forest and its inhabitants. George's journey to find General Aman (a once-great warrior orangutan who might help him save the rainforest from man's machines) is peppered with cunningly clever creatures, beautifully illustrated along the way. The moral of working together for the common good becomes clear as the animals cooperate in a grand plan.
This book will be enjoyed by children old enough to read it themselves, while younger children will love the pictures and enjoy hearing it read to them.

Yesterday morning, George saves the Rainforest arrived. I sat down with a cup of coffee and started to read. What a wonderful story. I'm so glad that George was quick to react to the terrible situation that surrounded him and was going to affect every animal and their beautiful homes. How would we feel if someone came along and bulldozed our street/village...We'd react so well done George for doing the same. The rainforest is saved for everyone to enjoy. A big thank you and thank you to Lyn for sharing this great story with us all.

Charming, heartfelt...this feels like a book by someone who knows the beauty and the joy of the rainforest from personal experience, and the huge challenges it faces for its survival. It's also beautifully illustrated. Buy this book for every child you know!

I really enjoyed reading the book and finding out about the wildlife centre. The pictures were colourful and brought the story to life. I learnt a lot from the story.

I had the pleasure of meeting the author at Matang several years ago. Her passion and commitment to helping orangutans and the other amazing creatures in the rainforest is an inspiration. George Saves the Rainforest is a tale of coming together from different backgrounds to work towards a common purpose with a sense of hope going forward. It is not only a book for children but for all of us, particularly in these unprecedented times.

A wonderful evocative first story from Lyn Pendle, who writes with a passion for the rainforest and it’s endangered wildlife.

I loved Lyn’s book about George saving the Rainforest!
The illustrations are immediately engaging with their vibrant colours and characterful animals.
I especially like the consistency of the mottled sky, mountain ridges and forest trees that flow from page to page, interspersed with vibrant full-page illustrations.
I think Lyn has been particularly clever in taking something so relevant to everyone and at the same time making it accessible to everyone, both young and old(er)
Well done Lyn, a super book with an important message

I have the greatest pleasure of calling Lyn a friend and someone I have worked with over the years at our many visits to Matang. Reading this book with all the wonderful characters and animals we both love and treasure is such a treat. And to know that others get to share their stories and understand the predicament that these amazing creatures face is so very important. This book is such a brilliant way for our younger generation to learn about the situation in Borneo. Everyone should have a George in their lives.

A marvellous book that evokes all the sites and sounds of the beautiful rainforests of Borneo. A lovely story of hope accompanied by wonderful illustrations. This is a great introduction for any child to the themes of nature, ecology and protecting our precious environment. And it confirms the theory that these magnificent great apes have an intelligence that is not only on a par with humans, but it is also far superior. The animals are written and drawn with such vivid clarity that I can almost believe that they really do exist. Well done George. And well done Lyn!

A lovely book filled with gentle humour. Well worth reading more than once by people ofall ages!

  • Tasha Beckerson

This book is wonderful. Such gorgeous artwork that really brings the rainforest to life, as well as the super characters of course! Lyn's passion for the conservation of these animals shines through the pages, and she has created a book that will be enjoyed by all who pick it up.

  • Angela Daisley

A wonderful way of introducing our children to the responsibility of looking after the planet, especially the ever-decreasing rain forests. Throughout the story, you are wanting George to desperately succeed. His band of comrades, using their guile and talents, manage to stop the humans in their tracks, but for how long!
Beautifully written, the characters of the story engage your sympathy. The ending so clever, with video evidence of their actions.

Well done Lyn - I can't wait for your next endeavour!
