Simon J Patel is a degree-educated engineer by trade. His interest in books and reading spans his whole life, and it is this obsession that has led him to start on his own path in writing. Being a huge horror fan, there was only one direction for him with regards to genre. He is currently writing his second novel, and already has plans for a third.
He is also a musician and has played bass guitar for many years in a relatively successful heavy metal band. This has afforded him a chance to travel the world (most of the gigs have been international) and they have played in everything—from smaller clubs to much larger events.
Living in Gloucestershire, he is a family man with four children and two grandchildren, and has been with his partner for nearly 30 years.
Absolutely brilliant. I was totally hooked with this book. Definitely an OMG story I couldn’t put down.
Really enjoyed this book- it’s based on a concept that with a little imagination, is scarily believable! The characters and scenes are all very well described, creating clear images in your mind of their appearance - one character in particular! It’s difficult to review a book without revealing too much and creating spoilers, but if you’re a fan of horror or a good thriller, then Clone is well worth a read. Highly recommended
I read a wide variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction, but horror/fantasy is not a genre I typically look out for and if were not for the fact that I know the author I probably would not have been drawn to buy it if casually browsing in a book shop or online. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the story drew me in so I finished it quite quickly. It is very readable and I felt the writing got better as the plot progressed. As a first novel it is an admirable achievement which I'm more than a little envious of.
First time author so was Intrigued by a possible new take on horror. Have to say I really enjoyed this book. Thought the characters were well fleshed out and I really became invested on the fate of them. Thought the story was well written and a brilliant concept. I got Omen/Stephen Kings vibes in a very positive way. I certainly didn’t take a break in the read of this book. Don’t want to give any spoilers other than can’t wait to see what the author has next in store. If this first instalment is anything to go by I’m excited. I highly recommend
This is a modern parable that advocates caution in technological advancement. In this particular case, a warning against the creation, and confinement, of sentient clones for selfish reasons, but maybe not with the outcomes one would expect... The narrative bounces along at a highly readable rate and lulls the reader into sense of normality that is almost voyeuristic. That, of course, is duly shattered by a series of very abnormal events that, while you sense they are coming, still have the ability to surprise and shock. The result is a well crafted, and highly enjoyable, King style horror. It is hard to believe this is the authors first work; the forenotes suggest more on the way so I shall be keeping a curious eye out for these.
