Rules are rules but not fun. Sometimes it is more fun to break a rule. Especially if it means that you can stay awake a little longer to do what you really want to do. Who can fall asleep anyway, with a gaming tablet calling you to come and play?

Pieter Delport grew up with a passion for languages and reading. At the age of 8, he read two youth novels a day – the second one with a torch under the blanket after the sleeping deadline. He obtained a degree in African languages, became a journalist, wrote three youth novels and numerous scripts for radio and TV. One drama series, Khayalethu, got an award for best script. His grandchild, born on his birthday, and thereafter contact with all her friends stirred a passion in him for stories for the little ones.

I do not usually leave book reviews but I felt strongly about leaving one for Chill Sandman due to my children's wonderful reaction after I first read it to them, 5 times in a row, on the same night!
Our daughters (aged 5 and 7) immediately related with the little girl in the story, Tanja & her need to play on her tablet. The author wonderfully managed to blend the mystical with the technological in this story and I'm genuinely hopeful to read more from Pieter Delport. I feel it necessary to award bonus points for creating character diversity without it feeling like it was forced on us like so many children's stories do these days. Keep it up.

A wonderful story about birthday girl Tanja and her interaction with the Sandman. An easy read for self-read or for a bedtime story. Teachers in lower junior grades would benefit from having this book in their class library.

  • Lorraine Montgomery

Excellent book. It is the first book that my little one read from start to finish in one go! She is really related to this book!

  • Lesia

Awesome book. My daughter can't get enough of this book!

  • Antoinette

As a teacher, this book teaches a valuable lesson about the consequences of not following the rules. Children often are led by the temptation to bend the rules and this story is a good example thereof.

  • Micheline

A captivating story capturing the Mystical world in a relatable present-day context. Written by a much beloved and dedicated grandpa.

  • Chantal

A beautifully illustrated and well-written story which many children will relate to. Pieter is an amazing person and grandfather who deserves all the praise and recognition for his efforts

What a beautiful, attention-grabbing book! As a parenting consultant, I often hear parents' dismay regarding rules and technology. Pieter managed to bring the two together, in such a fun and humorous way. I bet every child ànd parent will love this book!
