Childhood abuse and trauma has consequences: black holes, where voids are born, mental ill health acquired and self-love diminished. The cause of these voids and the power to heal them lies solely in one force alone, or lack thereof, and this force is love.

Let’s journey together sharing knowledge, vulnerabilities, synchronicities and the word of God, of pure, unconditional Love, through a memoir incorporating science, nurture, toxicity, personality and the true depths of the void. We will analyse, psychologise and be present in our own individual stories, breaking chains that bind us in order to truly heal and be set free, turning black holes into shining stars.

Laura Mansell holds a first class honours degree and postgraduate diploma in adult nursing, and has additional qualifications in neuro-linguistic programming and life coaching. Using reflections of her own childhood and subsequent adulthood abuse, trauma and the effects of this onher mental and physical health, she aims to analyse toxic behavioural patterns and use the word of God and prayer as a powerful tool for healing.

The author has written the book from a range of perspectives. The survivor of abuse, the victor of her own story, as well as a practitioner. The tone of the book is conversational, gentle, and kind which shows empathy to the reader whether you have experienced abuse yourself or you are an abuser.

The author's candid and expressive dialogue of her own thought processes throughout each significant period of her life is heartwarming, relatable, and inspiring. It is hard to read this without your mind reflecting on your own experiences and life trajectory on each and every page, taking you on a journey through your own childhood and adult experiences.

Names and faces of people you have encountered or still live with are brought to mind and heart as the author provides a thorough, yet succinct overview of mental health disorders and their impact on our lives.

Since reading the book, I have used this as an opener to some hard and uncomfortable conversations with others. It has provided a strong evidence base for the possibility of overcoming trauma and becoming a self-advocate for your life. Or simply, helping others to identify signs of abuse in their own relationships. I would recommend this book for support groups and community groups to read and discuss or to be shared with those who do not yet recognize themselves in the author's own story or her clinical reflections.

The book provides a piece of evidence for supernatural power available through God and his unending relevance in our society contrary to today’s narrative. Our intrinsic nature is spiritual and is either destroyed or improved by spiritual means only. This author is a testament to this work of God.

I highly recommend this book for survivors of abuse of any form. It had helped me to reflect on my own life experiences and traits of the relationships I have had with various people throughout my life.

Laura comes across as inspirational and strong in the way that she has addressed the issues discussed and in telling her own story.

This book has given me lot's to think about and most importantly hope.
