"Beyond Belief - Faith that Works" is a book that beautifully fits into the fragile intricacies of our faith lives. It will be the extremely rare follower of Christ who does not see themselves in the experiences of Shelly in Dietrich Schindler’s Beyond Belief. We think we know things that we haven’t actually lived. The idolatries of making anything more important than God persist. We all have our “dented Teslas” that reveal those idolatries. We “instrumentalize” God when we reduce him to being simply someone who helps us get what we want.
God’s path, the halak-life of wisdom, is an amazing, ongoing experience of continual communion with the One who frees us from performance-based living precisely because Jesus is the only one who turned in the only perfect performance. There is a way of living the Christian life that is supernatural. It isn’t just cleaning up how we live. It flows out of a life in relationship with Jesus. I appreciate Dietrich’s effort at showing what it means to walk with God and where wisdom fits. Wisdom is the applied knowledge of God in our lives. Our lives will be different when it flows from within and applied outwardly.
