Telegraph and Argus feature an online article about Ian Lockwood’s ‘The History of Skipton’. The article is presented with the title of ‘Skipton’s scandals of times past’.
The book takes us back into the times and discusses the untold stories from the past. The history of the town ‘Skipton’ is rich in nature and this book is believed to be the most comprehensive book on the town’s history for almost 150 years.
The book’s central theme is based on the ordinary folk of the town and about their work, health, hygiene, and recreation. The book discusses some of the very interesting facts about the town like in 1903 Skipton magistrates prosecuted a speeding motorist for the first time. Her name was Dorothy Levitt, 21, she had been taking part in a race between Glasgow and London and was clocked by constables as she tore up a straight stretch on the Gargrave to Skipton road - at a mind-blowing 21mph.
The author uses the history from the long-forgotten reports and archives to reveal many details about the town.
The author was born in Skipton and he graduated from Marist College, Hull and University of York. He remained on the position of editor for Craven and Herald newspaper between 1993 and 2008.
