A book review of Stanislas M. Yassukovich’s upcoming book, A Cape Town Decameron, was published on 8^th May 2022 by Anthony on Online Book Club. The book review highlights the stupendous flair of the author for story-telling exhibited in his recent work, which is the aftermath of the Covid- 19 pandemic and its consequent lockdown in Cape Town.

When the 14th-century notorious plague hit Florence in 1348, a gifted author, Giovanni Boccaccio, jotted down an account of 100 imaginary stories about the people who fled away from it towards the Tuscan countryside to avoid it. Those were titled ‘Boccaccio’s Decameron,’ which got published in 1354. Stanislas Yassukovich derived the basic notion for his twelve stories from the ‘Boccaccio’s Decameron’. He termed his collection, A Cape Town Decameron which entails stories of people who experienced an actual lockdown during the recent Covid-19 pandemic. His stories are based on intimate relationships of friends and families and the roller coaster impact of the pandemic on their relationships, going through twists and turns.

Stanislas M. Yassukovich was born to a French mother and a Russian father. During the outset of World War II, he got settled on the North Shore of Long Island. He received his formal education from Green Vale School, the Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, and Harvard College. He worked for US Marines and was posted to London. There he worked in the field of investment banking and contributed to pivotal roles in reputed banks like Bank of Merrill Lynch Europe, Middle-East and Africa. After retiring, he settled in France with his wife Diana and his 3 offspring, Michael, Nicholas and Tatyana.
