Rossiter bookstore in Ross-on-Wye featured the autobiography, ‘My Friend the Horse’ by Alex Atock. This is a memoir of the author Alex Atock, who was born in Dublin in 1932 and graduated from the Veterinary College of Ireland in 1958.  The book is a journey through the veterinary life of the author. It starts from his initial years in general practice to the Veterinary officer of the Irish Turf Club, being the head of Veterinary Department of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and finally as a consultant to World Horse Welfare. He defines his lifelong journey from the eyes of a Veterinary doctor.

He took care of the elite world of the thoroughbred horseracing and assisted underprivileged working equines and their owners in the developing countries. Throughout his time with FEI, he worked closely with the European Union and was also actively involved with World Horse Welfare, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), and the International Federation of Racing Authorities.

The author, Alex Atock is a veterinary doctor by profession and after serving some time in general practice, he was appointed as a Club Jockey by the Irish Turf Club. He next became the head of FEI which is based in Switzerland and later on moved to UAE on his appointment as a Veterinary officer and consultant to UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation. He also remained the secretary/treasurer of the World Equine Veterinary Association. He now lives in Herefordshire with his family.
