The book signing event of Pam Preedy’s new book, Living Through The Great War at Home: How the People of Bromley Faced the Challenges of War, was held on 24^th June 2022 at the Wetherspoons. Signed copies of the book were sold and distributed amongst the event attendees.

Living Through The Great War at Home: How the People of Bromley Faced the Challenges of War is the chronological account of the historic events that took place in Bromley during World War 1 from 1914-1918. The author has based the narration on actual research done on local newspapers from that era. It entails the changes and challenges brought about to the people of Bromley by the onset of war. How Bromley natives supported their troops, how their women rose to the occasion filling gaps in the workforce and putting food on the table despite the shortages and inflation. It relates how Bromley people faced challenges of DORA and cared for Belgian refugees. Exquisitely compiled into a book comprising 15 chapters and 400+ pages, it literally takes you to that era.

Pam Preedy was born, lived in, and studied in Bromley. She was a trained teacher who taught for many years. After retiring, she continued her education and acquired the Advanced Diploma in Local History from the College of Continuing Education, Oxford. Her curiosity about men named in Bromley War Memorial led to her writing this book. She researched local papers of the era thoroughly to put her stories into context. Besides her Ph.D. in Local History, she spends time knitting, reading and in the gym.
