Alex Atock, the author of ‘My Friend the Horse’, received a lot of appreciation from Equine Science Update for his efforts for equine health and welfare, over the period of 35 years. The book ‘My Friend the Horse’ is a very detailed but entertaining description of author’s personal and professional life. His veterinary life, from the elite world of thoroughbred horse racing and international equestrian sport to assisting underprivileged working equines and their owners in developing countries. He has shared some very compelling views and experiences in the nursing and control of equine disease. Throughout his professional life, as he matured, he learned to take risks for his patients that no one else would.

In 1932, Alex Atock was born in Dublin. In 1958, He graduated from the Veterinary College of Ireland. He was past secretary/treasurer of the World Equine Veterinary Association. Alex Atock is a skilled vet, a loving husband to wife Sherley and a very responsible father of three children. He travelled to and from Ireland, England, Switzerland, and the UAE.  He has an interest in facilitating the international movement of horses, doping and the control of medication in equestrian sport.
