The ‘Mums at the Table’ website has featured an article about Gail Simpkins book,’ Praying for Strawberries’. In the article, the author defines the story of her son, Lachlan, who has autism.

The book is about a Labrador, Itsal and his friendship with his owner, Lachlan. Lachlan is a nine years old kid who is affected by autism. Itsal helps Lachlan with his daily tasks and together they go on many adventures.

‘Itsal’ is a powerful motivation for Lachlan and his family. This book states the daily routines of a mother, her son and the dog. Together they experience the joys and sorrows of a normal family who have been blessed as they travel with each other.

Each day brings them the surprises and the uncertainty that can be frightening and exciting. This is a very interesting book which makes its readers happy, teaches them to find calmness and joy even in the adverse situations of life.

Gail has both personal and professional experience in disability.After working with people with disabilities for many years she became a mother for the second time to Lachlan, who has autism. Gail continues to work and study in this area (Social Science, Welfare and Education in Disabilities) and lives with her family in Sydney.
