Thames Guardian magazine has featured the book ‘Fire - Floats and Fireboats’ by David C. Pike in its book review section. It has given a detailed account of the book and some history of the author.  The article stated that it is a well-illustrated book with an informative account of an important feature of London’s life, with profits going to the charity Massey Shaw Educational Trust.

Styled with more than 250 fascinating illustrations and comprehensive survey charts, Pike has painted an astonishing evolution of the vessels used to combat fire from the river, starting in Roman times and bringing the story right up to the present day. It pays homage to the intrepid crews of these often unwieldy crafts. He has successfully recreated a vivid description of some of the most devastating conflagrations the capital has ever seen.

David C. Pike retired in senior rank from the Brigade in 1996 and now lives in Devon. At the tender age of sixteen, David joined the London Fire Brigade as a cadet. As a young fireman, he was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct. David served LFB for thirty-plus years. He commanded one of London's busiest and most challenging fire stations, Brixton and he rowed himself into The Guinness Book of Records for raising money for LFB.
