Boxer, Bouncer and Now a Doctor is the story of Doctor Jeff Slater, a young man who mastered his craft as a street fighter and became a doctor later on in his life. Jeff Slater was fascinated by boxing ever since he went to the boxing gym for the first time when he was 14. Lacking education, Dr Jeff migrated to Australia at 18, confronting and overcoming many challenges and hardships. Three years later, he returned to England, where he became a bouncer and a street fighter. Later on, he pursued his education, obtained three degrees and a doctorate when he was 39-years-old.

Dr Jeff Slater was born in 1956 in Burnley, Lancashire. At a young age, he learnt boxing to protect himself from the physical attacks he endured at school and on the streets. After returning from Australia in 1977, he worked as a bouncer and street fighter and was awarded a doctorate at age thirty-nine.
