‘The Courier Mail’ has featured a news article about Jim Toomey’s ‘We Were Tourists’. The article described it as an intelligently written book which is sharp and precise. Not one word is out of context and it clearly reflects the author’s decision of explaining a lot with fewer words. He has done a marvellous job.

‘We Were Tourists’ explains the journey of a migrant from England to Australia and how he made the latter his home. He signed for a band in the late 1970s which is a decision that he is still proud of. Jim describes the inner working of his band, gigs and foreign tours which made them a hit within no time. He has travelled a lot and has seen a lot around the world. He explains each of his experiences through the lens of a drummer in the band.

He says that his job might look fun to many but it is actually all about handling the pressure in the good and bad times of the business. The seeming weight of the endless tours and getting to see your family only a few times are some of the cons of this job.

The author, Jim Toomey is finally settled in Brisbane, Australia after spending most of his life in travelling. He still plays Jazz occasionally and has recently turned towards writing. He has also been cast as an extra in the latest Pirates of Caribbean movie.
