The story is about a seventeen-year-old girl, Oonagh, who left Ireland to escape the nineteenth-century potato famine and start a new life in North West England. The story unfolds as pregnant Oonagh finds herself amidst a ravaging street battle between the Irish immigrants and the English. Stuck in a socially unstable environment, infested with disease and poor living conditions, Oonagh endures tremendous problems. Author Ann Lynn Gillott was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer at the age of forty. However, she didn’t let it stop her from going after her passion. She got enrolled in A-levels and later graduated in BA (Hons) in history at the age of forty-nine.
