Austin Macauley author blooms at Sixty Five Roses charity reception
On Tuesday 13th October the UK Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Trust held their annual Sixty Five Roses Club reception which focused on the power of storytelling for good. (It’s called Sixty Five Roses as it sounds like cystic fibrosis!) The theme of the evening was ‘Novel Ideas: how storytelling and innovation will help win the fight against cystic fibrosis’, and the attendees enjoyed the soiree and event at Trinity House, London. Over 60 guests heard from the Trust CEO, Ed Owen, Stem Cell lead researcher Professor Ludovic Vallier and CF adult Tim Wotton, who has recently published an award-winning book, ‘How Have I Cheated Death? A Short and Merry Life with Cystic Fibrosis'. Tim signed copies of his ground-breaking book – the first written by a sufferer at 40 – and spoke for 30 minutes about how CF affects his daily life, how he fights back physically and mentally as well as about how helpful it’s been to open up about his survival through his ‘Postcards from Earth’ blog and his popular memoir which won the UK People’s Book Prize in June. Tim said of the event, “I really enjoyed the chance to present my story in a different way to the written word. My anecdotes about how I cheat death every day kept the audience spellbound.” Vicky Bratherton, Philanthropy Manager at the Trust, said: "It was a fabulous evening, with our speakers covering topics that stimulated both the head and the heart.” For more information on Tim’s story and book, please click here.
