Anthony Franklin talks about his book ‘Ice Crossing’
Anthony Franklin has a very diverse personality and an ever so inspiring energy. The author has travelled a great deal, met many people, been a driving instructor for 45 years, and lived in four different countries - presently in Spain. He has a vivid imagination that he tries to put into words, two daughters that he cares a lot about. He is outgoing and willing to try new things.
He talked about his book ‘Ice Crossing’ to the Children’s Academy, near Moscow recently. The author from Bagshot tells a story that features murderous ‘Reds', polar bears, ice and snow, arctic conditions but also meets with great friendship and sacrifice. It is an enthralling adventure set in the Cold War era. The author has written their marathon journey features incredible hardship and danger, with many changes of fortune.
The story goes on about a teenager who is accustomed to life in East Berlin, with all its restrictions, but after his parents die in a plane crash he sets out with his grandfather on an epic journey to try and reach America, and freedom, by travelling overland.” Anthony Franklin conveys a sense of ever-present danger as well as the atmosphere of the time and the disparity between life in the East and West.
