Producing artworks of our colourful world using black ink is a challenge. Using only lines and dots, the artist has to make the viewer believe that the white spaces left after the ink has been applied represent recognisable forms.

I have assembled in this book a selection of my own ink drawings along with tips which might assist anyone who works or who would like to work in this dark art. There are no rules as such, but there certainly are things to avoid and techniques to employ.

Whatever your age or ability, if you wish to develop your drawing skills then you will find something here to inspire you.

Clive Baxter uses fine ink pens to produce detailed drawings of the man-made and natural forms which surround us. He loves the honesty of working with such a medium as well as the trickery involved which is necessary to capture our colourful world on paper. He has spent nearly twenty-five years as a design and technology teacher in various London schools and now concentrates on his artwork.

This is a lovely book for so many reasons. It is full of beautiful drawings with some really helpful tips about how to get started on drawing in a similar style and some superb touches of humour to keep the reader and would be artist interested and motivated. Clive has me thinking I could possibly draw something that wouldn’t look like a child of 5 had done it. I’m not a child of 5 by the way.
