Dogs don’t ride bikes… or at least that’s what Dad thinks! But Wilkie, the lovable Scottish Terrier, has set his heart on a brand-new bike for his birthday, and he’ll do almost anything to try and get one.

When Mum and Dad won’t budge on the idea, he enlists the help of Grandma, Grandpa and his best friend, Tom, to try and make his dream come true. Just why is Dad so desperate to keep Wilkie’s four paws on the ground and off two wheels? Why is Mum siding with Dad? Can anyone help Wilkie fulfil his ambitions? Wilkie is no ordinary dog, and he won’t give up easily!

This is an excellent story for young children. It reinforces the power of dreams and continuing to strive to achieve them. It encourages them to believe that anything is possible and recognises that perseverance is key. Plus, it is made infinitely better by creating a loveable main character who will hopefully have other adventures in future. I would recommend this book to any KS1 teachers and to parents with children aged between 4 and 7.
