Umbo goes to Welsh Class

Umbo is no ordinary chimpanzee puppet. He is big and beautiful with a happy smile and full of life. Caroline is an enterprising grandma with a special talent for ventriloquism.

She is a Welsh learner, but has a problem: she has to give a talk in Welsh to her Welsh class. She needs help, but who can help her?

She thinks Umbo is just the inspiration and support she needs, so decides to take him to class.

Will Umbo be up to the task, will Caroline’s talk go well, and what will her classmates think of Umbo?

This is a true story – well, almost – with only a light touch of make believe. Caroline does live in Wales with Umbo, Bird and Dave, and she did take Umbo to Welsh class!

Caroline and Dave moved to mid-Wales 20 years ago. She has always enjoyed reading to children but this is her first venture into writing a story. We hope you have as much fun reading the Umbo story as Caroline did writing it.

Scott is a young illustrator at the outset of his career. He has always loved children’s books. He believes illustrations should enhance the story and he has fully accomplished this with his charming images on these pages.
