The She Team is back! Mags the dog and the four cats Smig, Ebi, Trig, and Roisín are once again using their superpowers to help others, beginning with Fran, the badger and her babies and later helping out the humans in their family when a very unusual event occurs.A deadly virus has spread all over the world, causing serious disease and confining everybody to their homes for months at a time. The Mammy and Daddy have to work from home and mind their three boys – baby Éanna, eight-year-old Eoghan, and ten-year-old old Diarmuid. Tempers become frayed and the mischievous boys cause a few problems without meaning to. Our heroes, the She Team, come up with solutions to these problems and others, much to the delight of the boys and the initial disbelief of their parents. As time goes by, however, the Mammy and Daddy are forced to look at their pets in a different way and see how special they really are. Maybe they are actually superheroes, as their sons believe!

Susan McGovern lives in Dundalk, Ireland with her husband, Padraig, and their current pets – Mags the dog and two cats, Trig and Smokie. Ebi and Smig are two former members of the household who were much cherished but have sadly gone to Cat Heaven. Roisín lives in Dublin with Susan and Padraig’s grandchildren Diarmuid, Eoghan, and Éanna. And so, you have met most of the cast of The She Team Does Lockdown. The cast does not include Susan and Padraig, who, although slightly mad, are not mad enough to be in The She Team Does Lockdown.

My son pestered me to buy The She Team Does Lockdown because he enjoyed The She Team so much. I eventually gave in and he thought the sequel was even better than The She Team. What he enjoyed most about both books was the superpowers that each animal had.

Here comes a welcome and much-awaited sequel to Susan McGovern’s first book, “The She Team.” We are again invited to join in with the clever antics of the 4 cats: Smig, Ebi, Trig and Roisin and the dog, Mags. Each has a very individual talent which enables them to connect with the world of the humans. Mags is a wonderful character who is the leader and interpreter for the team. He is the middle-man between the humans and the animals. Set in the time of the pandemic lockdown, when humans were feeling vulnerable, isolated and disempowered, the animals are well placed to help them resolve problems. The reader becomes ever more engaged as the events unravel and the humans begin to gain an awareness of the special talents of their cats and dog. This book offers a development in the characters as they become more involved in the lives of the humans around them. It is exciting, humorous and satisfying for the reader. It is a book which can be shared by parents, read to a class or devoured by a young reader. We look forward to more of the same.
