At twelve, Li Hua is sold to a floating brothel, but destiny has other plans. Behind the walls of the Forbidden City, she evolves from concubine to spy. She navigates treachery, suppresses a rebellion, and engineers a bold escape with only a mastery of martial arts and a cinnabar dragon pendant imbued with the fatal poison known as GU.

In modern-day San Francisco, Lu Carter, an adopted Chinese American and a medical engineer, is introduced to the mysteries of her family’s past when she receives an ancient chronicle. During a trip to Shanghai, she uncovers her birth mother’s dark history—imprisonment and debts owed to the wrong people. Upon her return, Lu is terminated from her job and faces a corporate espionage lawsuit after her invention is leaked. But the past and present soon collide.

A Riveting Masterpiece: Cinnabar Dragon is Unforgettable *In Cinnabar Dragon, the author weaves an exhilarating tale of destiny, resilience, and family secrets. The story follows two compelling narratives: Li Hua, a young girl sold to a floating brothel in ancient China, who rises from concubine to spy in the Forbidden City, and Lu Carter, a modern-day Chinese-American engineer who uncovers dark truths about her heritage. Both women must confront betrayal, danger, and their intertwined fates. Li Hua’s journey from victim to powerful agent is captivating, with her cinnabar dragon pendant symbolizing her lethal strength. Meanwhile, Lu’s discovery of her birth mother’s past and her own struggles with corporate espionage add depth and tension to the plot. The dual timelines are skillfully intertwined, creating a gripping narrative that keeps readers hooked. What makes Cinnabar Dragon truly remarkable is its rich character development and historical detail. Both Li Hua and Lu are complex, relatable figures whose stories resonate deeply. The novel explores the themes of fate, identity, and the enduring power of family, all while delivering a fast-paced, thrilling adventure. With its seamless blend of historical intrigue, martial arts, and modern-day suspense, Cinnabar Dragon is a must-read that will linger long after the final page.*

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was fun to read. I particularly liked the parts that took place in ancient China. There are some colorful characters, too. I warmly recommend it.
