A great holiday read, especially if you're in Scotland. The book is about the Mull of Kintyre and the history of the Dunaverty Massacre where 300 MacDonald and MacDougall clansmen were brutally murdered by the Campbell's and the Covenanter army. It's set in modern times with the rebuilding of Seal Lodge, an old hotel on the Kintyre coastline. The arrival of the new MacDonald owners awakens the curse put on Kintyre by the 'Bloody Preacher' who ordered the massacre all these centuries ago. The book goes back in time and tells the story of the Preacher and of his hatred of Colkitto, the MacDonald Chieftain. The author has done her research and the book is full of historical facts and local Legends which create a brilliant backdrop to the story. I really enjoyed reading this, a ghost story with a twist as well as a good romance.
I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it! As well as learning about the fascinating history of some of Scotland, the story is gripping and the characters make it a fun read. This book makes for a great escape...I think my next trip will be to the Mull of Kintyre to explore!
I was recommended this book and it didn't disappoint. I love old stories about Scottish clans and the author really captured my imagination. I highly recommend it.
