“Majestic, stately, self-possessed,
A fashion plate divinely dressed.
Miniskirts and summer blouses,
Knee-length boots and winter trousers.
Tiaras, diamonds, royal crowns,
Pyjamas, swimsuits, evening gowns.
Cotton, satin, wool, or lace,
She wears them all with equal grace.”
From the poem “Princess Ice Cream”

Welcome to Michael McAllen’s collection of witty, opinionated and technically assured poetry written during that strange decade, the 1970s. It includes poems about love lost, gained or never-quite-achieved, Hollywood and the British theatre scene, along with vers d’occasion, pop song parodies, political diatribes from both sides of the Atlantic, and portraits – not always flattering – of various celebrities of the time.

Michael McAllen regrets reaching the age of 80 without making any meaningful contribution to the world – no children conceived or reared, no building designed or built, no sporting or artistic achievements, no vaccines discovered, no export orders gained. These humble verses are the best he has to offer and if anybody should remember more than two lines of any of them, that would be a success.
Michael is a long-term sufferer with Parkinson’s Disease.

This is a delightful book which I can highly recommend.
It gives a snapshot of life in the 70s and was a lovely trip down my memory lane.
Found myself laughing out loud quite a few times while reading.

It was my intention to perhaps just read a poem or two now and again but once I started reading I found it hard to put down.
You do not have to be a poetry lover in order to enjoy as each poem is a story which I feel people who recall the 70s will particularly enjoy..
This book would make a lovely gift or even a Christmas stocking filler.

    The cover is fab!!!
