I honestly didn’t know what to expect from the book as it was just handed down to me but whoa! I was immediately blown after reading the first chapter. That was a real shocker and of course, I continued on to the next chapters with undivided attention. What’s happening amidst the nightshades is to watch out for!

I followed the investigation of the serial killer closely together with the detectives, Governor Hadley, the police, and the rest. Even I wondered how come it’s been three years and they’re not even close to nailing the suspect. The profile fits that of a psychopath, a devil worshipper, or a sexual pervert. But hey, the rest is for you to find out.

I would love to read more from James Quinn!

If you should ask why you too should read this book, my answer would be that you will be missing on a lot if you don’t. It has everything that can satisfy any reader. It is mysterious, strange, and definitely compelling. The Southern setting holds its own secrets and intrigue. I don’t know that much about the south of New Orleans so this exquisite novel was a treat for me. As go through reading the book, you begin to discover each and every character’s background, knowing them deeply. Character development is one of this novel’s strongest qualities. The fear is so real but it also leaves you wanting to dig up more to get to the answers that flood your mind.

It is fearfully thought-provoking. This is definitely my new favorite.

A fresh, horrifying perspective you’ve never read about before.

How the story unfolds from page to page is a revelation I look forward to in this novel by Quinn. If I could just speed it up I would – that is how exciting it is. But then you are on a page, you will also savor every bit.

You do not get lost in the story or in the characters in any way because it is told in a deeply enthralling manner. The way it is pieced together is simply clever.

An extremely interesting antagonist for me is Max Gould. He has a twin brother Teddy and together they were apprehended for a terrible crime and diagnosed as psychotics by Dr. Roth. But only Teddy was caught and incarcerated. Max’s freedom meant other people’s abduction and harm. Oh, and he is a proud vampire. You must read!

A first-class novel that is deserving of more than just a 5-star rating.

As I was reading the book, Stephen King came to mind. Of course, no two authors are the same but the talent and the quality of the reading experience for me are on that same level. James Quinn’s ability to evoke fear that affects every part of you is a gift he gives readers generously and competently. The relevance to the human condition is skillfully deep: a father hoping against hope for his daughter, Baby Sue; a mother waiting for his son Evan to come home; a friend desperately looking for her friend, Charlotte; a geneticist going against all odds to create the human being of his dreams; and so on and so forth. The rest is for you to find out and revel at.

Nothing like a truly talented author like James Quinn to give you high-quality literary entertainment.

I am not one to be easily impressed by a book because I can be very discriminating. I have a good command of the English language and I tend to correct as I read and that is no way to enjoy a book. Fortunately for me, Quinn took charge of that part and I do not have to correct, edit, or cringe as I read because what we have here is a superb reading resource that just lets me relish every part of it.

As you go deeper into the book, you will discover how the characters will evolve and how the story evolves in its true meaning.

Nightshades of New Orleans is definitely on my top 10 must-reads!

Every aspect of this novel is a sight to behold. I am satisfied to the fullest.

For one, there are numerous chapters in the book but they are short and just right. I like that the author has written it this way because the result is a compelling page-turner you can savor. Secondly, I met a good number of characters but I don’t get confused or easily forget them because each one has an important role to play that has been established well that is easy to recall. Third, I like how the story itself is well-researched, grounded in reality, and very relatable.

Overall, I would like to give this work of fiction 5 solid stars. It made my night!

If you were Max, would you choose to be a vampire or remain a vulnerable human being?

I mean, if you were a vampire, you can do literally do anything you want. Who cares if it is aggressive. We humans have a lot of aggression within us just waiting to be unleashed. So why restrict yourself?

These were my thoughts when I was reading this awe-inspiring novel authored by James Quinn. What it is really is a deeper take into that typical vampire tale that has been told countless times. I like that it is not only entertaining but more so experiential and highlighting how it relates to humanity as a whole.

This is a breakthrough experience I wish for everyone to benefit from.
