As a long time friend~who i lovingly refer to as my surrogate Mum....i have seen the decline.. over the wonderful friendship we share and quite frankly i am scared of what i see....no longer remembering telling me things....exclaiming all her needs to me as she can't quite articulate it to her family members as she does'nt want to be a burden or have them worry and with Anna's wonderful insights and knowings, led me to understand my friends processes and how at nearly 80yrs ...i had a duty of care to bring it to her family's attention for everyones sake!!! Now i know what is happening from reading the book and can feel more involved at HER level.
The family are trying and doing little bits but it is not enough long term ongoing support....i feel their resistance to an outsider trying to help...also well explained in this real life book....
I learned Kindness, patience, active listening plus so much more of what to expect as the days add up with my friend.
I really felt i was there with Anna in her recounts of her very intetesting and at times draining workloads and decissions she had to make for the wellbeing of her clients, herself and all involved.
I am looking forward to Anna's next book as i found this one very engaging and insightful for myself at 60 and my dear friend. Anna's writing style kept me engaged, informed and the words help me feel as if i was there.
Thank You Anna for Sharing.
