My name is Dougay Roberre. My passport reads: Douglas Roberts. I don’t think either is real. At age three, my parents fled France to go into witness protection. I grew up in Sydney, Australia, among the sun, the sand, and the surf. As I neared forty, I had a yearning to discover my French roots, selling my Bondi Beach apartment and buying an attic apartment in Nice on the Cote d’Azur. I can speak French, though not read nor write it. I can use my fists – as a teenager I was taught to box. Without academic qualifications, I take whatever employment comes my way. I am a man for hire. I looked to where the car had stopped. On the footpath was a dark form – a non geometric shape. Curiosity aroused, I crossed to it. It was a person. I turned the body over and she moaned, “Don’t phone the police. Don’t phone the police.”

Allan McFadden is an Australian music theatre composer. He trained as a secondary school music teacher and has worked as a teacher, actor, musician, music director and an orchestrator. With a fellow Australian, Peter Fleming, he has written several stage musicals: Airheart, Madame de, Frank Christie, Frank Clarke and Noli me Tangere. As he approached his sixty-ninth birthday, he decided to write fiction. Big Gig in Rock ’N’ Roll Heaven is his first published novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, a real page turner, I couldn’t put it down.

Allan McFadden returns with a top read.
A noir crime novel with a bit of fun. After all the main character is a rough diamond with a heart of gold.
This is well worth the time for crime novel junkies and those who just love a good yarn.
A quick disclaimer. Allan was my music teacher some years ago. I can’t help wondering if Dougay, the main character is his alter ego as a young man.
A good read that will keep you guessing until the end.

A fast-paced read about an Aussie larrikin who finds himself caught up in the criminal activities of others when he moves from Sydney to the French Riviera.

Having previously read this author’s other book - Big Gig in Rock & Roll Heaven, I was interested to read on.
I found Au Revoir Mate to be refreshingly different from the run-of-the-mill crime stories, very well written
with a great storyline. Hope to see more of Dougay’s adventures in the future.

I love reading crime stories. This one is fast reading and gets your mind going and wanting to find out more. The writer has a great sense of humor and tells a great story. From Australia back to French roots.Looking forward to the next book of the Dougay Roberts series.

I do like a crime story and Alan Mc Fadden’s refreshing and unique tale stands out. It is quite the page-turner with: humor, spice, and intrigue. Douglas Roberts the protagonist, is a quirky and lovable bloke from Australia that gets caught in some compromising positions not to mention some sticky, if not deadly situations. While having spent some time with my partner in Nice, on the Cote d’Azur, I was immediately transported back down the hidden lanes and cafes, not to mention the pebbled beaches amongst the bronzed bodies and babes. I would like to know what happens next and how Douglas’ backstory unfolds. Alan Mc Fadden’s crime story has definitely got me hooked!
