For all aspiring and budding authors, here’re some insights and tips from Peter. We caught up with him to find out what inspired him to start a career in writing and what challenges he faced when composing The Sicilian Favour!.

1. What inspired you to write The Sicilian Favour!?

It’s a continuation of Blood-line Incursion which was my second book. A drama of an immigrant in Australia. And I have a fascination of the underworld in Melbourne.

2. How long did it take you to write The Sicilian Favour!?

4 Years

3. What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?

To make sure all the threads are coming together and to keep the reader intrigued. My objective was to create a page turner.

4. Have you ever suffered with writer’s block? If yes, how did you overcome this?

Yes, I stop writing and do something completely different such as gardening or running in the forest. Most of the time that does the trick, if not I might leave it for a week or so. The brain will always come up with something after a break.

5. What are common barriers for aspiring writers?

Time, knowledge, concept, discipline, confidence and support from family members. I recommend that anyone who wants to write a book should enrol in a writing course in their preferred genre. I did and it improved the way I wrote.

6. What is the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?

I don’t find it difficult at all – I grew up in Sweden where equality was the normal way of life. The main character in The Sicilian Favour! is a woman! And I’m a man…

7. How did you balance your work, home and social life whilst writing The Sicilian Favour!?

You have to have a strict discipline and an open timeline. If it takes 4 or more years it should not matter. I lock myself in the office Monday to Friday 8:30pm – 10:30pm. I’m happy if I can do 350 words each night.

8. Do you try more to be original, or to deliver to readers what they want?

I try to be myself which is original! You should not be predictable. Think outside the square. I see myself as an entertainer – I want the reader to feel emotions without knowing what’s next.

9. Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Find a topic you love and have great knowledge about.Just use feedback as a guide line – you are the boss! It’s your DREAM!

10. How many unpublished and unfinished books do you have?

One - I’m currently writing the sequel to The Sicilian Favour!
