How to Stay Positive as a Writer: 10 Ways to Get Through the Hardest Days
For authors, writing is an innovative way of creative expression, helping others understand different facets of life, or even building a business. There's nothing that brings more light and joy to authors than the creation and sharing of stories. However, there's also nothing that brings them as much pain.
There are days when you feel like you can conquer the world, but there are also some days when it's too much. You may get discouraged when things get difficult.. But in this blog, we'll outline some ways to stay positive as a writer and power through the author's journey.
Coping with stress
Stress becomes an everyday struggle for a writer. You are stressed out when you can’t write enough and sometimes when you try to be positive, your stress doesn’t seem to be hitting a point of relief. The only relief from everyday stress is associated with the accomplishment of a set writing goal. Having said that, we will always recommend that you set a daily target. Daily affirmations will be your ultimate way out of the stress cycle and nothing will bring these affirmations as strongly as having met the goal you set for yourself every morning.
The dos and don’ts of when you're feeling low
You may surround yourself with motivation and good vibes quotes, but you still cannot escape these hard days when you struggle with your creative imagination and writer's block to get the work going. Whatever the reason may be, give yourself space and take a break from writing. This will save you from overwhelming yourself.
Build community
While writers are most comfortable in their loneliness, let this not make us undermine the power of community. Being connected with other authors will also bring the comfort of having a meaningful discussion around your plot whenever you feel the need for it. Needless to say, the like-minded people around will also become a source of writing inspiration and writing prompts. Whilst loneliness may act as the motivation, the community may act as the inspiration.
Practice meditation and workout
Half of the writing takes place inside a writer’s head. The brain is constantly involved in the writing process. Yoga or any other form of meditation and working out can help to set the focus right and make you think and picture more clearly.
Keep journaling
The daily diary is an enabler at its best, especially for writers. When you put down your unfiltered thoughts on paper, you become more mindful of the thoughts inside your head. Journaling becomes your saviour when you are hit by writer’s block. It keeps you in the process of writing even when you are not doing it formally. Venting out thoughts through journaling will be your outlet for staying positive.
Align your social media with your job
Scrolling on social media apps is our favourite pass time. What if this mere scrolling also brings you good ideas and writing inspiration? We know most of us to like to follow pages and accounts that cater not only to our interests but are also related to our careers. Writers can also use their social media in the same way; finding the accounts that send daily affirmations and motivation your way. Ideas can strike a writer anywhere anytime.
Reminder: Progress is relative
We all deal with different types of struggles, and life happens to each of us differently. So, there is no point in judging your progress with someone else. Do set your very own realistic goals, and write accordingly. You know yourself and your capacity. Be positive and let your positive attitude shine through your writing.
Reading must go on
Side activities are very important for writers. Reading is a perfect pass time activity that writers can engage themselves in while taking a break from writing. Reading can bless you with new writing ideas and much more. Your reading routine may be just half an hour every day, but you will see how much it impacts and improves your writing.
We hope these 10 ways help you glide through the hardest days and write the best of stories amidst the chaos. Being a writer is both fun and difficult, but positivity will be your leading guide in maintaining hope.
