Austin Macauley Publishers, one of the fastest growing independent publishers of 2018, was in attendance at the London Book Fair 2018. Stand 7H40 was the place to be for all three days. Many different authors also visited the fair and signed books and participated in activities that we organized.
Here is a look back at London Book Fair and how it was a success for Austin Macauley.
History of London Book Fair
The roots of London Book Fair can be found in 1971.
It began as SPEX or Specialist Publishers Exhibition for Librarians on November 5th 1971. It was a place for small publishers to showcase their books to librarians in the region. It was immediate success and soon the scope begin to grow.
By 1977 the fair had been named London Book Fair (LBF).
Now, it plays home to 25,000 publishing professionals, sellers, literary agents, and media industry people.
London Book Fair 2017
In 2017, Austin Macauley attended LBF for the first time. It proved to be a real success.
Publisher’s staff also spoke with LBF at the time and answered many different questions including queries about the company in a 5-minute interview.
Many different authors came by to visit our stand and made sure that the event was an overwhelming success.
The 47th Edition
The venue for the latest LBF was Olympia, and Austin Macauley was back in attendance this year.
First day of the fair was filled with entertaining activities like network drinks served at our stand. Authors and many different publishing professionals took part.
Author visits were frequent.
‘Wrong Place, Wrong Time’ author David P. Perlmutter visited and signed a copy of his book. The book tells the story of a London estate agent. He loses everything in a short span of time when he finds himself at odds with the law.
He tries to escape his circumstances but ends up in worst trouble than before.
Brian Bird also stopped by and posed for a picture with his book ‘Haley-Ann The Alien’.
The sweet story of the book takes an alien on an unforgettable journey in search of a friend. She finds her way to Earth. She lands on the planet and meets a friend. She shows everyone how many surprises she has.
Richard Bloss and his dog also attended the fair. The dog is also the inspiration for is book ‘About a Dog’, a book that strikes a chord with every pet owner. Story takes readers along on the adventures that one has as an owner of a dog and a cat.
The theme of the book highlights the joy that dogs bring to the owner’s life.
As before, the fair’s conclusion left a feeling that it should have more days.
One of the Fastest Independent Publishers
On the heels of London Book Fair, Austin Macauley’s US office was named one of the fastest growing publishers of the year.
The news came as an honor for the hundreds of staff and employees that have put in hard work to bring the company to where it stands today.
Publisher Weekly bestowed this honor and the article in the magazine also made mention of the overall growth of the company in the last 2 years.
This was the summary of LBF 2018, we are already excited about next year’s fair and you can be sure that we have great ideas brewing for it.
Next up is the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival which will be attended by Austin Macauley’s UAE chapter.
