An Afternoon with Annabel Gardiner

An Afternoon with Annabel Gardiner

Do you want to sleep in a tree like a koala?
How about at the bottom of the ocean like a whale?
Or upside down in a cave like a bat?

Discover how different creatures go to sleep at night and imagine yourself snuggling down with them at bed time.

You can also try and spot the playful caterpillar hidden on every page.

How did you come to write So How Will You Sleep? And is this your first title?

I wrote this as I wanted my children to learn about how different animals go to sleep at bedtime and to use illustrations for them to visualise this. I wanted other children to share this experience and to learn about different habitats and gain an understanding of the importance of protecting these habitats for the future.

What inspired the plot and characters of your book?

I wanted a rhyming book as I felt that for young children, they enjoy listening to the rhythm of the verse. I also wanted illustrations to show how these creatures sleep and where they sleep.

What is it that makes this book unique?

The rhyme coupled with the beautiful illustrations make this book unique.

Is there a message you want to deliver with So How Will You Sleep?

I’d like young children to start learning about different habitats and the importance of protecting them.

What feedback have you had on your book that you’re most proud of?

This review: “So How Will You Sleep? Is a beautiful book to grace the bookshelves of all households with young children. It is a book to savour and to treasure.”

What was the best piece of advice given to you in your writing journey?

After you have written your book, don’t read it or think about it for at least a few months and after this period of time, then go back and edit it. The time away from your book really allows you to have a far more objective view when editing.

Do you have a favourite Children’s author and did they inspire you in writing So How Will You Sleep?

Michael Rosen and his wonderful inspiring poetry.

Has publishing So How Will You Sleep? made you want to publish more in the future and if so, would you stay within the children's genre?

Yes absolutely. I have subsequently written another book which has been illustrated that I am hoping to also publish

Annabel Gardiner’s So How Will You Sleep?

is available in Paperback and eBook.
