Jack Goodall left school at 15 with no academic qualifications but good with his hands. He started work at a heavy engineering work as an improver – latter to become an apprentice. Then he did two years of national service in the British army Royal Fusiliers. Jack married young, to an even younger girl; they parted ways and were divorced.
